When we arrived on the property, the last folks had done some grafting the spring before we moved in (we moved in that fall). He used a cleft graft and wrapped them in flagging tape. The flagging tape got left on too long so some of them are mis shaped or have flagging grown into them, but for the most part they turned out well. He grafted both Granny Smith and Honey Crisp.

2024
Mar 18- Grafted three Brooks Plum scions. Two onto a decorative plum spout and one onto a cherry tree that doesn’t produce. I used a U shape on a grafting tool. I wrapped the grafts with grafting film and then a rubber band.

Mar 31- Grafted Ambrosia, Liberty, and Gala Apples onto a White Transparent. I used the Omega shape on the grafting tool, cleft graft, and whip and tongue. Also grafted a Contender Peach onto the root stock from a Nanaimo Peach that had died above the original graft. I used a whip and tongue graft.
Apr 11- So far the Brooks onto the cherry and one of the decorative plum scions has new growth. The other plum was a larger scion and doesn’t have any obvious changes (but also doesn’t appear to be dead). The Contender Peach’s buds have swollen. No real obvious changes to the apple scions aside from looking a little dry.
Apr 16- Grafted 3 Ayers Pear into a Bosc and 3 onto a Bartlett Pear tree. Then 4 Contender Peach onto a Cherry tree. And 2 Contenders onto a plumb tree. I grafted 8 Brooks Plum onto a plum tree (this plum tree has not produced so I am re-working it).

Onto the apple tree next to the plum tree I grafted 2 Ambrosia, 1 Liberty, and 1 Gala (it already has Honey Crisp and Granny Smith grafted to it). This tree I left topped and I will keep it small since it it close to the plum.
On the second apple tree I grafted two Ambrosia (one will be the new trunk as it grows up), 2 Gala, and 2 Liberty.
Onto the third apple tree (It has produced nasty crab apples last year) I grafted 3 Honey Crisp, 2 Liberty, 2 Ambrosia, 2 Liberty, and I topped it with Gala.
Onto the forth apple tree (an old apple tree had been cut and I grafted onto a sucker coming out of the old stump) I topped it with a Liberty.

For Grafting I used the grafting tool, I did a couple cleft grafts, and I did a couple whip and tongue. They were then wrapped in grafting film and I used electrical tape in stead of a rubber band.
