A Hard Day’s Work

Whew, what a day! I’ll tell you what, all the folks around here more than earned their sleep tonight.

Bright and early this morning, Cody and five other guys lit a bonfire, powered up their chain saws and an industrial-grade wood chipper, and set to work conquering the jumble of trees that lay across our soon-to-be homesite.

(Check out my last post to see more “before” pictures and some cool tree-dropping video!)

What a mess!
Gotta start somewhere!

They worked tirelessly from 8am until dark (which was around 8pm today!), and I’m excited to report that a good 75-80% of it is done! Almost all of the branches and limbs were either chipped or burned, and probably a third of the big trunks have been bucked up for firewood.

We can see the ground again!

Getting the rest of those large tree trunks processed and stacked out of the way will be another day or two of work, but an end is definitely in sight.

We had a beautiful sunset tonight, which made a lovely backdrop against our new open space. Isn’t that a lovely view? I think I’m gonna head outside now and go sit by the dwindling fire for a little while before bed.

A huge thank you again to everyone who came out and helped today! We couldn’t have done it without you guys!
